Saints' 1-0 win over Swansea on Tuesday evening could force Leeds into a rethink over their summer spending

While Leeds United's Championship season is over for another year, sbobet168 the hard work at Elland Road is just beginning.

Paul Heckingbottom's men secured a 13th place finish on Sunday with their 2-0 win over QPR, a disappointing return given the club's quick start to the season and the investment made in the previous two transfer windows.

The club are therefore set for a busy summer as they look to improve a squad which needs to take several steps forward if they are to challenge for the top six next season.

One of their chief transfer targets is reported to be Swansea defender Kyle Bartley, but, as is often the case with Leeds United, any potential deal is not going to be straightforward.

That's because Leeds' hopes of landing their former loan star are believed to rely on Swansea winning their battle against the drop in the Premier League.

And these hopes took a huge blow on Tuesday evening, when a second half Manolo Gabbiadini goal gave Southampton a 1-0 win over the Swans in their six-pointer relegation showdown at St Mary's.

The defeat means sbobet168 Carlos Carvalhal's men sunk into the bottom three with just a single game left to play and became the big favourites to join Stoke and West Brom - who's relegation was confirmed last night - in the Championship next season.

With that, Leeds could see their hopes of landing their top transfer target in Bartley disappear, as the club are more likely to want to keep the centre-back at the club next season as they look to cut budgets and get rid of some of the higher earners. Bartley's Championship experience will also likely come into play here.

Sitting one place above Swansea in 17th is Huddersfield, who are three points ahead but have two games remaining.

Should the Terriers lose these two games - against Chelsea and Arsenal no less - than Swansea can secure their Premiership status with a final-day win against Stoke.

Leeds fans never normally need to find an excuse to want to see Huddersfield lose and that will be the case on Wednesday night, even if it does mean routing for Chelsea, which never sits easy with United fans. sbobet168
